When do Cheer practices begin and where will they be held?

Competition Cheer Practices Practices are scheduled to begin August 1, 2024. Game Day Cheer Practices are scheduled to begin August 12, 2024. Practices in August will be held at Hillsborough Elementary School for all cheerleaders. Once school starts Game Day will practice at HES and Competition teams will practice at Hillsborough Middle School.

Game Day Cheer:
August: 3 days per week , T , W, Th (evening time TBD by age level)
Fall: 2 weekdays (days TBD decided coaching staff).

Competition Cheer:
August: 3 days per week, days TBD, 6-8:30 pm
Once School Begins: 2 weekdays + plus 1 weekend (days TBD by coaching staff)

Flag Cheer:
August:

In-town: TBD
Fall:
Travel: TBD

What if I sign up for cheer and when the practice schedule is announced and we have a conflict? Do we get a refund?

How will the competition teams be selected?

Once registration is complete we will look at all of the registrations. Teams will be split up according to age and a grade in accordance with the Pop Warner rules.

When will we know what days we will be practicing?

Practice days will be decided by July during one of our coaches meetings.

What does the competition schedule look like?

For 2024, the Central Jersey Competition “ Locals” is 10/13. Garden State Pop Warner competition “States” is 10/20. Eastern Region Competition “Regions” are 10/27, 11/2, 11/3, depending on age and level. Pop Warner Cheer Nationals are tentatively 12/9-12/12 in Orlando, FL. Ycada Globals 2/22-2/23.

Will there be non-competition cheer (Game Day Only)?

Yes, all cheerleaders will have a choice to do Game Day or Competition.

What is the difference between local and travel flag teams?

Exhibition flag teams will cheer under Pop Warner. They will cheer for Saturday morning flag football games. They usually follow a similar schedule to the Game Day teams. Away games will be in towns within a 1 hour driving radius. Exhibition Flag will also perform an exhibition or a performance opportunity in Mid-October.

In-Town flag will cheer for in-town flag football games on Saturdays.

How will coaches be determined?

During registration all parents who would like to volunteer to be part of our coaching staff will have the opportunity to do so. They will be prompted to include their prior coaching experience. Once registration is complete, and teams are assigned - coaches will be assigned at that time. Anyone who would like to volunteer that does not have a child in the program can also do so by registering as a volunteer through the system.

Is tumble class required or built into the schedule for competition teams?

No, this is not required, but strongly encouraged. Parents are welcomed to coordinate a team tumble class on their own.

Are we still using Jr. Coaches for cheer?

Yes. Please have Jr. Coaches create their own account at HillsboroughYouthSports.org and sign up as a volunteer.

Will there be a Showcase/Cheer Rally/Pep Rally?

Yes there will be an opportunity for all cheer teams to perform locally for friends and family.

What happens if I already have vacation planned sometime in August/Labor Day?

Please inform the Sports Directors as soon as you can for planning purposes.

What will the registration cost be?

Do I need a  birth certificate or other documents?

Yes as per Pop Warner guidelines. Forms are available and on the website. There will be a link to required forms in your registration confirmation email.
