Rutgers Safety Certification

All volunteer coaches within the Hillsborough Youth Sports organization will need to upload their Rutgers Safety Certification into their Sports Connect account during volunteer registration. If you are not Rutgers Safety Certified, you can find information on attending a class here.

Background Checks

Hillsborough Youth Sports Organization requires any adult participant (18 years of age or older) volunteer or employee complete a background check. Once a volunteer completes their registration process through the Sports Connect website, they will receive a request to their provided email address to provide personal information directly to the company. The organization will have no detailed access to specific information that is provided. The exception to this policy is Girls Lacrosse (see below).

Sport Specific Coach Requirements

Girls Lacrosse

Girls' Lacrosse requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification mentioned above and US Lacrosse Membership.  US Lacrosse Membership includes a background check that will fulfill the organizational requirement.  US Lacrosse requires that coaches participate in an Abuse Prevention Training every 2 years to validate their membership. All of lacrosse coaches will be required to complete an online concussion awareness program. Free Concussion training can be found through both Rutgers and the CDC.

Track & Field

Track and Field requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification and complete a background check as mentioned above. All of track and field coaches will be required to complete an online concussion awareness program. Free Concussion training can be found through both Rutgers and the CDC.

CO-ED Spring Flag Football

Field Hockey coaches 

Field Hockey requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification and complete a background check as mentioned above. All of Field Hockey coaches will be required to complete an online concussion awareness program. Free Concussion training can be found through both Rutgers and the CDC.

Football (Tackle & Travel Flag)

Football requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification and complete a background check as mentioned above. Football Coaches will also need to complete the required training through USA Football each year. Be sure to associate your USA Football account with "Hillsborough Pop Warner" when beginning the initial or recertification process. Football (In-Town Flag)

Football requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification and complete a background check as mentioned above. All of Football coaches will be required to complete an online concussion awareness program. Free Concussion training can be found through both Rutgers and the CDC.

Cheerleading (Competition, Game Day & Travel Flag)

Cheer requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification and complete a background check as mentioned above. Cheer Coaches will also need to complete the required training through YCADA.

Cheerleading (In-Town Flag)

Cheer requires all coaches provide their Rutgers SAFETY Certification and complete a background check as mentioned above. All of Cheer coaches will be required to complete an online concussion awareness program. Free Concussion training can be found through both Rutgers and the CDC.
