Welcome to our 2025 Spring Hillsborough Jr. Raiders Track and Field Season!

Thank you for registering for Spring track.  We are extremely excited to get the season started.  Our goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for our young athletes focused on skill development, discipline and sportsmanship.

The first day of practice will be on Tuesday, March 25th at Iron Peak (137 Mountain View Rd, Hillsborough Township, NJ 08844) in the Bubble area (Dome) at 7:00PM.  Please arrive by 6:45PM to check-in at the registration table.  We will be outside of the Dome.

On Thursday, March 27th, Our Head Coach, Kristen Sudol, will host a short parents’ meeting at the start of practice (7:00PM).   All of our coaches are volunteers, if you are interested in joining as a lead or assistant coach for a group, please reach out!

Practices will continue through April 10thth at Iron Peak on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Parents will not allowed inside the Dome while practice going on.  We have 200 athletes registered this year and will need all the space for their safety as well as yours.  If you need to get in touch with your child during practice, please see one of the volunteers, Diane or Cathy.

There is NO PRACTICE the week of April 14.  Starting on April 22nd, practices will be from 7:30-8:30PM at Hillsborough High School on mostly Tuesdays and Thursdays.  This is when the track is available for our program to use.  There are some schedule conflicts where we will need to start later.  This is noted on the schedule.  There will be meets/events on some Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  Please refer to our schedule.

We have a flexible program and do not take attendance.  You do not need to call any of the track coaches if your child cannot make it.

Please pick up and drop off on time.  Our coaches cannot leave until every child is picked up.

Volunteering & Work Bond

Volunteering is crucial to the success of the program.  Throughout the season, you will be asked to help at practices and internal meets to satisfy your work bond requirement (4 hours).

  • Volunteer jobs include:  Administrative (registration, volunteer check-in, uniform sorting/distribution), assisting coaches, and First Aid/CPR.
  • Please visit this link to sign up for volunteer slots: 2025 Spring Track Volunteer Sign Up.
  • Additional slots will be posted as we identify more help needed.  We ask that you please refrain from sending email inquiries about volunteer opportunities.  There will be plenty of opportunities to satisfy your work bond requirement.  Please consider signing up as we need your help to run a smooth and efficient program.

Preparation/Gear for Athletes

  • Make sure your athletes eat one hour before practice.  Use the bathroom before practice.
  • Water.  We prefer not to have plastic water bottles, so please invest in a reusable water bottle.
  • Label all belongings, we will not collect or hold clothing & water bottles left behind.
  • Wear sneakers, please invest in running sneakers for your child, converse or vans are not appropriate running shoes.
  • Outside practices earlier in the season can be cold.  Bring a sweatshirt and dress in layers.  Even if it feels warm, dress in layers the track is windy and you can always take a layer off.
  • Let your group coach know of any allergies/medical conditions.
  • Bullying and misbehavior is not tolerated, we will have a 3-strike rule.  Parents will be notified if their child is not following instructions of their lead coach and after 3 discussions with a parent a child will be asked not to return to the program.  This is for the safety and well-being of all of our athletes.
  • Your registration fee includes the cost of the track uniforms.  Uniforms will be distributed prior to our first meet.
  • Track gear available for purchase at:  Hillsborough JR Raiders Track & Field Custom Gear.  It is not mandatory to purchase this gear.  Deadline to purchase is April 4.  There are no exceptions.

2025 Track & Field

Hillsborough JR Raiders Track program offers an introduction to the sport of Track and Field to boys and girls grades 3 through 8. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for the young athletes while challenging them to become the best they can be.

We will host internal track meets throughout the season where we compete only against athletes from our program. We also attend meets hosted by others programs in the area, and compete in the Skylands Track and Field Championships at the end of the season. While we feel that competing in meets is an important part of the program, we respect that some children might not want to. However, the local meets with other clubs in the area are a little more competitive yet still fun for athletes on all skill levels. When possible, we will attend track meets that are free. However, some meets will impose an event fee or a flat fee ($10–$25) for the day. You are responsible for this fee and any fees to join USATF or other Track and Field organizations.

This year's teams will be made based upon grade.
Sub Bantam (under 9)
Bantam (9-10)
Midget (11-12)
Youth (13-14)

We will be offering training and competition in the following events: running events (55,100,200,400,800,1500 meters), hurdles, shot put, discus, javelin, and long jump. Depending on the abilities of our athletes, we reserve the right to limit or add events. Not all events will be taught every day based on the number of athletes and coaches involved, facilities, and equipment.

Coaching Opportunities: The athletes are coached by volunteers, parents, high school and college students who have background and knowledge on the various events that track and field have to offer. The program has grown exponentially the last few years, and we are in need of more coaches to help coach the athletes. If you are interested in coaching please reach out to our Track & Field Director at [email protected].

Practices/Meets:

The program begins around the end of March and continues through early June. Practices will NORMALLY be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-8pm at the Hillsborough High School Track (track times and location might vary during season). Once the schedule is finalized, it will be posted.

We realize that families have busy lives, and the athletes have other activities that may interfere with attending track practice. We are a very flexible program, and we do not penalize those who miss practice. You do not have to notify the director if you cannot attend unless it is a long-term absence or an injury. We will practice in light rain showers and cold weather.

It is important to understand that the programs’ goals are to teach the fundamentals and skills of Track and Field. Our numbers have grown to over 200 athletes for the last two years. While the coaches are dedicated to teaching everyone to help them achieve their goals, we ask each parent to have a discussion with their children about attitude and effort before the season begins. It is unfair to the coaches and other athletes who are distracted by others fooling around and not paying attention. Additionally, we will not accept bullying, punching, kicking etc. The Track Program reserves the right to remove any athlete from the program that is not behaving appropriately.

Those athletes who are serious in competing at a higher level are coached towards competing in USATF Track and Field meets. USATF competes on a District, Regional and National level. We had several athletes compete successfully on all Levels in the last few years!
